Determine the number of steps and the height of the riser if the total height of the rise is 2.20m using a 30 cm. width of the tread.

Assuming 17cm height of rise, compute for the number of steps to reach the upper level:

$Steps=\frac{2.20m}{0.17m}=12.94\simeq {\color{Red} \mathbf{13steps}}$

Re-check the height of the riser:

$Height_{riser}=\frac{2.20m}{13}=0.169m(ok))$

Determine the distance of the run:

$Run=\left ( Steps-1 \right )\left ( Effective width_{tread} \right )$

where:

$Effective width_{tread}=Width_{tread}-Nosing$

$Effective width_{tread}=30cm-5cm=25cm$

$Run=\left ( 12-1 \right )\left ( 25cm \right )={\color{Red} \mathbf{2.75m}}$
