EXAMPLE 2.4.1. VOLUME METHOD: ESTIMATING CONCRETE FOR A PAVEMENT

Estimate the concrete materials for a pavement 4 inches thick, 10m width, and 1-km long.

Start by solving the volume of the pavement, 4 inches will be converted to 0.10m:

                 

For pavements, the typical mix used is class B (1 : 2.5 : 5), [check concrete proportions table]

1. For cement:

       Using 40kg bag:              
       Using 50kg bag:   

      2. For sand:

                                                                                               

                                             
            Add 25% for sand bulking:
