EXAMPLE 2.8.1. ESTIMATING SQUARE COLUMNS BY LINEAR METER METHOD

Using linear meter method, estimate the cement, sand, and gravel needed to erect the 3-m (embedment of 1.20m) columns as shown:

The materials' proportions are already presented in the table so all we got to compute is the total length of the columns. The total column height is the height of the floor with the embedded height.

                                
                                

Assuming class A mixture, coefficients of 0.30m square column are as follows:

• Cement  = 0.810
• Sand      = 0.045
• Gravel    = 0.090
