EXAMPLE 4.8.1. ESTIMATING WOOD TILES

Estimate the materials required for a floor 8.0m wide x 12.0 long specifying wood tiles flooring.

Determine the floor area:

$Area_{floor}=8.0m\left ( 12.00m \right )=96m^{2}$

Convert the area into square feet for the purchase of wood tiles:

$Area_{ft^{2}}=96m^{2}\left ( 10.76\frac{ft^{2}}{m^{2}} \right )=1,033ft^{2}$

Add 5% allowance for cutting and edging of wood:

$Area_{tiles}=1,033ft^{2}\left ( 1.05 \right )=1,084.65\simeq {\color{Red} \mathbf{1,085ft^{2}}}$

Wood glue:

$Glue_{wood}=96m^{2}\left ( \frac{0.165gals}{m^{2}} \right )=15.84\simeq {\color{Red} \mathbf{16gals}}$
