EXAMPLE 7.0.5. EQUILIBRIUM OF COPLANAR FORCES

To transport a 250-N bag of fertilizer, a gardener uses a 60-N wheelbarrow. What force must she exert on each handle?

This is another problem using summation of moments determine the required. At which location are we going to take summation of moments? The point of consideration for the moment is a point where change of movement (due to applied load or the required force) does not change the point's location. The pivot of the whole system is located at the wheel of the wheelbarrow or at point A.

$\sum M_{A}=0$

$60N\left ( 0.15m \right )+250N\left ( 0.30m \right )-F_{handles}\left ( 1m \right )=0$

$F_{handles}=84N$

Thus, the force per handle to be exerted by the gardener is:
