PLUMBING, ELECTRICAL, AND MECHANICAL LAYOUTS

The second part of Building Design covers the other aspects of completing a plan - plumbing, electrical, and mechanical.

Plumbing considers the three categories: water supply, sanitary and storm drainage lines. Students are asked to sketch out their own residential structures as models to be used throughout the course. After introducing the symbols and details needed for plans, they are required to work on their own individual model plans to lay-out piping, and designate fixture locations, etc. Septic vault details is also a part of the plumbing course, however cisterns and cesspools as part of water storage facilities are not included.

Electrical includes both power and lighting lay outs. Students are expected to have covered computation schedules and designation of circuits from the lecture class.

Mechanical covers HVAC layouting, fire protection and details of elevators. Although start-up model is a residential structure, mechanical layouting would be incorporated to introduce to students the different mechanical detailing needed in plans, especially for bigger commercial structures.
