EXAMPLE 6.1.8. HEAD LOSS USING DARCY WEISBACH FORMULA WITH REYNOLD'S NUMBER

Determine the discharge of a fluid with Re=2200, flowing through a 30mm diameter pipe, 150m long if head lost is maintained at 175m.

From the given Re = 2200, which considers the flow as turbulent. The formula to be used for friction factor is from Hagen-Poiseuille equation:

$f=\frac{0.079}{R_{e}^{0.25}}$

$f=\frac{0.079}{2200^{0.25}}=0.1154$

So, using the head loss formula with the discharge function:

$h_{f}=0.0826\frac{fLQ^{2}}{D^{5}}$

$175=0.0826\frac{0.01154\left ( 150 \right )Q^{2}}{0.030^{5}}$
