The complexity of occurrence of earthquakes make it hard for anyone to forecast them and thus makes it more difficult to design earthquake proof buildings.

The different types of seismology attempt to learn about earthquakes and reduce damages and casualties by devising procedures to instigate destruction of structures which causes death. As has always been said:
"Earthquakes don't kill people, but buildings do."
